We asked our community on Instagram (follow us at @curlwarehouse!) what their best advice would be for someone who is just starting out in their curly journey. They didn't let us down! Much of this advice applies to all curl types and patterns and we think everyone can benefit from hearing from other curlies about learning to love their curls.
Here are some of the responses we received.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Embracing My Natural Curls
"Have realistic expectations. You can not make your hair curlier than it naturally is." @_kikicurls
"You will have good days and bad days, but even the bad days are worth loving your hair." - @kendranh
"Knowing your curl type doesn't mean anything. Know your porosity and density." - @_sabrinaxf
"Time, tools and technique are way more important than finding the perfect product." - @tracy_sutherland
"To use treatments. DC, protein, bond builder, etc. make such a difference in transition time." - @2bornot2bwaves
"Get a silk bonnet for sleeping!! Works wonders for day 2 hair." - @lepsheens (We recommend the Handmade Satin Bonnet from Crown & Collar, or a Satin Pillowcase if you don't want to wear something on your head overnight!)
"Less is more with product! Wish I hadn't over complicated it at the start." - @oceanlabelle
"Research and ask questions! It doesn't have to be a solo journey." - @laura_lori_s
"It has to start with the haircut. No matter what products you use, you need a cut fit for curls." - @tereeses8
"The wetter your hair is while applying stylers, the better your results will be." - @julzby
"I wish I knew that I didn't have to wash my hair every day. There are ways to refresh and save it." - @maddyshevy (Check out our blogs on refreshing for more information on getting great day 2+ results: Refreshing Your Hair: Day 2 and Beyond and Refresh Sprays: Everything You Need to Know & Product Recommendations)
We had many people say similar things, so we have chosen one of each of the similar responses to represent all of you that offered the same valuable advice. Thanks to everyone who responded to our question.
