Great Products Under $20 for Curlies on a Budget

Posted by Lisa C. on

So are there products out there that don’t cost a lot to get started on the Curly Girl Method / Curly Hair Method???

Yes! …. and we have quite a few here at Curl Warehouse.  Today I will focus on 6 brands where all of the products are $20.00 or less (Canadian)!

As I Am

As I Am is one brand that is well known and respected in the Curly Hair community.  Their products, while cost effective, are also quite natural.  Plus they have released a lot of new ones in the last few years.  The staple that we usually hear about is the As I Am Coconut Cowash.  This is a conditioner used for cleansing (read more about cowashing as a cleansing method on my blog post here).  It doesn’t have a lot of cleansing ingredients so you need to use your finger pads to scrub.  It smells great and will leave your hair soft and moisturized.

As I Am also have a nice low poo and conditioner that is specific to itchy scalps and contains the magic ingredient of zinc.  These have been popular products this winter and we hope to get the shampoo and co-wash back in stock soon!

Mielle Organics

Mielle Organics is another great natural line that has a lot of fans in the curly world.  Their Babassu & Mint Deep Conditioner is a fan fave that provides a nice balance of moisture along with some great aminos to give you that protein boost.  It's one of the best-selling deep conditioners at Curl Warehouse!

The Honey Styling Ginger Gel is protein-free but that touch of honey is guaranteed to make this a hard-holding, long-lasting styler.

Noughty

Noughty is the latest addition to Curl Warehouse in 2021. Coming out of the
UK, this line is made from 97% natural ingredients. It is vegan and cruelty free
brand so a steal of a deal. What a great way to start your journey with the
Curly Girl / Hair Method using this brand which has a large selection of products to pick from, including ones for curly, moisture, scalp and colour care (including Purple Reign Shampoo and Conditioner for brassy tones).

Cantu

TXTR by Cantu is Cantu's latest release of products designed especially for textured hair.  They have an Apple Cider Vinegar + Tea Tree Soothing Shampoo as well a Curls + Waves Defining Gel.  This is a very cost effective brand with a variety of products.

Jack 59

Jack 59 is a new brand to the Warehouse that is made in Alberta!  For those of you who are into reducing your use of plastic, these are approved shampoo and conditioner bars!  There are so many to choose from so it is easy to match something to your hair type, density etc.  You don't have to use the same shampoo and conditioner bar - you can pick one of each for two different concerns (fine hair, scalp issues, etc.).  The bars are quite cleansing and the conditioners are really nice and moisturising.  They don’t have any stylers but if you want something that lasts a long time and to help the environment, have a look at these Canadian bars!

Aunt Jackie's Curls and Coils

Aunt Jackie’s is another brand that has a wide variety of eco-friendly
products. They are a black-owned business that is committed to supply products for all hair types. The Frizz Patrol Mousse will give you that volume and hold you are looking for!

So to wrap this up there are certainly some really nice products available at Curl Warehouse that won’t break the bank.  If you are starting out this will help you feel great as you practice your techniques like squish to condish, raking, prayer hands and scrunching out the crunch.  How great would it be to just grab your products and do the Curly Hair Method often as you want!.  Plus they all have quality ingredients and probably will become one of your go to brands for the future!
